For us, sustainable development is not simply a guiding principle — it is a concrete commitment to preserving French Polynesia today and for future generations. This vision drives everything we do and is embedded in a structured approach, formalized in our Sustainable Policy Charter.
In this spirit, Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea is proud to be recognized through several major labels and initiatives:
Manava has been EarthCheck-certified since 2019. This international certification is dedicated to sustainable tourism. It enables us to assess the environmental impact of our hotel through criteria related to energy, water, waste management, and carbon emissions. Achieving this label ensures that we follow a measurable and globally recognized approach to responsible development. It also reflects our commitment to continuously improving our sustainability performance.
Manava has been awarded the Engagé RSE label since 2025. Based on the ISO 26000 standard and issued by AFNOR, this label focuses on corporate social responsibility. It evaluates the maturity and effectiveness of the CSR initiatives implemented within the organization. The criteria include governance, environmental impact, working conditions, ethics, and community engagement. This label highlights organizations that place sustainable development at the heart of their strategy.
This initiative encourages actors in Polynesia to adopt more responsible practices. It raises awareness among businesses, schools, associations, and local authorities about the environmental challenges facing the fenua. Participants take on concrete challenges related to waste reduction, energy, biodiversity, and sustainable consumption. This challenge strengthens collective mobilization for a more responsible and resilient territory.
IGLTA (International LGBTQ+ Travel Association) is the world’s leading association dedicated to inclusive travel for LGBTQ+ travelers. It brings together companies, destinations, and organizations committed to offering a respectful, welcoming, and discrimination-free experience.
Located in the heart of a regulated fishing zone, Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea is home to a genuine coral nursery within its lagoon, dedicated to protecting and strengthening local biodiversity. Although Polynesian reefs are among the best preserved in the world, they remain vulnerable to human pressure and climate-related disturbances. This is why we have implemented a unique restoration program designed to give a second life to weakened coral colonies.
When corals are accidentally broken—whether by swell, weather events, or passing swimmers—the fragments that fall onto the sand risk dying quickly, smothered by sediment. In our nursery, these fragments are collected, protected, and placed in a dedicated growing area, where they can heal and continue to develop under optimal conditions. Once strong enough, they are replanted to help repopulate the lagoon’s degraded areas.
We also invite our guests to take part in this project through our coral gardening activity (available in the “Hotel Activities” section). Accompanied by our team, visitors engage in a concrete marine conservation effort while learning about the essential role of coral in the Polynesian ecosystem.
Beyond our certifications and commitments, Manava Beach Resort & Spa Moorea develops new concrete projects each year to strengthen its ecological and social transition. Here are our current priority actions:
A first for the hospitality industry in Moorea, we are installing a composting unit dedicated to recycling our organic waste, accompanied by specialized training in partnership with a local company. This initiative will significantly reduce our organic waste volume while producing compost that can be reused in our landscaped areas.
This new space combines self-sufficiency, education, and cultural promotion. It provides local produce for our kitchens while showcasing the ancestral agricultural practices of the fenua.
We are continuing our coral gardening efforts and developing a detailed assessment of the lagoon’s health to adapt our practices and sustainably support marine biodiversity.
We are reinforcing our plastic reduction policy by installing a self-service water fountain, offering a sustainable alternative to disposable bottles.
This initiative aims to reduce our energy consumption by prioritizing a renewable energy source adapted to our island environment.
We welcomed Swell Maistre, our new CSR Project Manager, to coordinate and optimize all of our environmental and social initiatives.
For the second consecutive year, we are organizing Manava Ocean Week, an event dedicated to marine conservation and celebrating World Ocean Day through workshops, conferences, and participatory activities.
As part of its CSR approach, Manava Beach Resort & Spa has adopted the principle of an eco-contribution, based on a donation of 300 XPF made by our guests. This gesture aims to support sustainable development projects backed by the hotel. In 2025, we contributed a total of 3 million Pacific francs to local associative, sports, and cultural projects. Among these initiatives, we work closely with local organizations such as:
This association aims to provide children with an environment that nurtures their growth while teaching them Polynesian culture, its values of respect, hospitality, and sharing, alongside training in modern multimedia techniques.
Dedicated to the protection and preservation of cetaceans (whales and dolphins) in French Polynesia, this association conducts awareness campaigns, research, and conservation efforts.
A community group committed to preserving Moorea’s natural environment and heritage, through local initiatives focused on waste management education and cleanup activities.
